I began teaching in the clinical setting in 2009, with a primary focus on maternal–child and pediatric nursing. In 2023, I joined the faculty full-time and currently teach across Years 2, 3, and 4 of the undergraduate nursing program. I also serve as the Clinical Lead, supporting students, clinical instructors, and clinical partners within the practice setting.
My teaching philosophy centers on fostering critical thinking and supporting students in developing evidence-based problem-solving strategies that can be confidently applied in clinical practice. I view my role as an educator as one of enablement—helping students achieve both program outcomes and the personal and professional goals they set for themselves.
I strive to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment in which learners feel safe, supported, and equipped with the tools they need to succeed. I communicate my enthusiasm for nursing by sharing relevant clinical experiences, role-modelling curiosity, and incorporating humour to build connections. Through this approach, I aim to inspire students to ground their practice in best evidence and sound clinical judgment while delivering care that is compassionate, considerate, and respectful.
In recognition of this commitment, I was honoured to receive The Margaret Leith Bruce Faculty Award in Compassionate Care (2024–2025).
