With in-person convocation this week and in celebrating the achievements of our committed and resilient Class of 2022, we're asked some of out graduating nursing students if they'd like to share some memories, advice, and insights with our incoming Fall 2022 cohort.

What's up next? Registered Nurse at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre Surgical Resource Pool
Why did you choose Queen's Nursing? What have you enjoyed about your time in the program and what are you looking forward to after graduating?
In spite of a pandemic, the stresses of nursing school, and the overwhelming fear of failure, I was able to make lifelong friends and memories during my time at Queen’s. I am so looking forward to passing students in their navy and postman blue scrubs this year as I begin my career in the hospital that I was taught in. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow as I graduate.
What's one piece of advice you'd like to share with incoming students?
Be gentle with yourself. While we all want to do our part, be superstar students and nurses, and do big things in a field in crisis, we can’t do that if we aren’t taking care of ourselves. Be kind to you! Drink water, go for walks, have a cookie and remember that you are worth it!

Why did you choose Queen's Nursing? What have you enjoyed about your time in the program and what are you looking forward to after graduating?
I really enjoyed my clinical experiences at Queen's. I am grateful that even through the pandemic we were still able to go into our clinical placements and still got the diverse experiences.
I am really looking forward to catch a break after graduating Queen's (and not Humber). Nursing school can be quite challenging.
What's one piece of advice you'd like to share with incoming students?
Nursing school is very rewarding but usually retrospectively. During school I mainly found it challenging, therefore, finding the school-life balance is so important. Make friends from various different programs so that you aren't always surrounded by nursing talk. Also take the time to things that you find joy in because it is very important that your identify doesn't only revolve around nursing!

What's Up Next? Travelling Europe, then working as an Registered Nurse at SickKids in Cardiology & Float Pool
Why did you choose Queen's Nursing? What have you enjoyed about your time in the program? What are you looking forward to after graduating?
I chose Queen's Nursing for the tight-knit community and vibrant campus. I loved developing lifelong friendships with other nursing students - this has been my favourite part of nursing school! I also enjoyed the paediatric and maternity clinical placements, especially when it involved holding babies! Other highlights include travelling across Alberta, Ontario and Quebec with the Canadian Nursing Students' Association. I'm looking forward to starting my nursing career in paediatrics and spending more time with family and friends in Toronto.
What's one piece of advice you'd like to share with incoming students?
Enjoy the little things! The most meaningful moments of nursing school are often during the "in-between" moments, like walking to class with a group of nursing friends.
